Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Hoffman could be shopped.

Lastly, the Montreal Canadiens need to consider trading Mike Hoffman. Unlike the other two players mentioned, Hoffman is under contract through the 2023-24 season. He will spend this year and next with the Habs barring a trade.

Hoffman has come to Montreal and failed to tap into the offense as he has shown in the past. For the Habs, it’s partially been due to misuse and getting buried in the line combinations, not getting the chance to shine in spots where he usually would.

In 2022-23, Hoffman has played in all five games where he has just one assist to his credit. There certainly could be more offense from the winger, and there’s more to be desired overall. If he starts to find some consistency, the Habs may look to offload him.

There may be a team who thinks a change of scenery would benefit Hoffman that may pull the trigger on a deal. Hoffman is someone the Habs would likely hope to shed, freeing up a roster spot and $4.5 million in cap space yearly.

If the Canadiens have the opportunity to flip him for any sort of return, the Habs need to jump on it. There’s no reason not to try and add draft capital or bring in more young talent if this team is jumping into the rebuild with both feet.
