Martin Frk

Give Martin Frk the puck, and you best watch out. Some hockey fans may actually recognize Frk for his performance during the 2020 AHL all-star game, and it’s that same performance that makes me think he could be worth a look for the Canadiens. In the hardest slapshot contest, Frk’s clocked in at 109.2 MPH, shattering the all-time professional record for hardest shot and reminding folks about the main draw of Frk’s game. That shot.  Much like Alex Galchenyuk during his prime years with the Canadiens (and much like Cole Caufield today) it doesn’t matter how much Frk gets on his shot, where he gets his shot from, or what position he’s in relative to the net. He’s a threat to score regardless, and has, in my opinion, one of the more lethal shots in professional hockey.

A second-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2012, Frk has managed one full season in the NHL, posting 11-14-25 totals over 68 games with the Red Wings in 2017-18, but it’s been during his time with the LA Kings where he’s managed to truly find his groove offensively. With 31-27-58 totals over 46 games this season with the Ontario Reign, Frk has been one of the AHL’s more electrifying players this season, and when given the opportunity, has performed, and performed well in LA, posting 8-2-10 totals in 21 games over the past three seasons. A noted power play specialist, both of Frk’s goals this season with LA (over three games) have come with the man advantage, which could prove beneficial to an upstart, offense-oriented team like Montreal.
