Montreal Canadiens Disappointing Loss Affects Atlantic Division Power Rankings
The Detroit Red Wings were projected to be a bottom feeder in not just the Atlantic Division, but the entire National Hockey League standings this season. They started well, winning against the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars, but have gone 1-5-0 since.
In the past week, they were blown out by the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames in western Canada before losing a tight game 2-1 to the Edmonton Oilers. Since defeating the Canadiens in the Habs home opener, the Red Wings have lost four straight and only scored five goals. They had exceptional scoring from their top line of Tyler Bertuzzi, Anthony Mantha and Dylan Larkin early on, but that dried up lately.
The goaltending tandem of Jimmy Howard and Jonathan Bernier isn’t exactly stealing games, either. When you have a young team it is important for veteran goaltenders to be at their best. The team is allowing 3.5 goals per game and they just don’t have the firepower to make up for that. It’s going to be a long season for the Red Wings.
