Jake Evans

There was a serious argument for Jake Evans making the team out of camp. He was dangerous offensively and solid defensively and at times used both to be very effective. Montreal Canadiens fans will remember the steal, block, and goal play Evans made to score the game-winner against the New Jersey Devils.

Poehling is the first in line to play down the middle, but if anything else happens, Evans will be there.

Defence

Karl Alzner

The whole offseason was spent wondering how the Montreal Canadiens would get rid of Karl Alzner. However, Alzner didn’t look too bad in the preseason and was more effective on the backend than Mike Reilly. Julien may not be quick to pump his tires that strongly, but he didn’t stand out negatively.

Alzner being in the AHL gives the Habs some cap relief which they shouldn’t stress about anyway. It would be a better scenario for both parties for the veteran to play well enough to be in the lineup full time. At the very least, having him up could give teams something to add to his resume to warrant a trade.
