Matthew Peca

The Habs planned on having Matthew Peca as one of their fourth-line centre candidates, but he also saw time on the wing in his 39 games with the team. Peca knows the system, plays with speed, and his ability to penalty kill gives him the edge over some of the other options from the Rocket. Claude Julien could consider him a fair replacement for Paul Byron should anything come his way this season (*knocks on wood furiously*)

Riley Barber

Riley Barber was one of the lowkey standouts from training camp. He developed some strong chemistry with Jake Evans and brought energy and production to the Montreal Canadiens lineup. The majority of his scoring professionally has been in the minors with little only three NHL games to his name, and that could change.

Alex Belzile

The likely next Laval Rocket captain should be in the running for a callup. Alex Belzile has spent his professional career between the AHL and ECHL with the hope of making the big league and this season may be his chance. Belzile didn’t look out of place in the preseason and at the very least made an impression on the coaching staff.

Last year, Kenny Agostino and Michael Chaput were in a similar boat and wound up being the first two to get called up. Belzile may not be the first, but he could be one of them.
