The progress of Shea Weber has been a growing positive story for the Montreal Canadiens, and it looks like his debut is confirmed.

The time may have come for the Montreal Canadiens and Shea Weber. He took part in another team practice yesterday showing signs of what’s made him a force in the NHL since 2005. Ask Jesperi Kotkaniemi, he’ll tell you all about it.

The Habs practiced in Buffalo Thursday afternoon, and Weber had some work in despite being on the phantom pair with Karl Alzner. The 33-year-old was a presence in the crease battling with Brendan Gallagher and literally throwing Kotkaniemi away from the net.

Whether that speaks to the lightness of the 2018 third-overall pick or the strength of Weber is interchangeable. The fact of the matter is, Weber is back. Well, almost.

Claude Julien did give Montreal Canadiens fans a giant ball of optimism though. That being the strong possibility of Weber making his season debut next week against the Carolina Hurricanes. If so, it would be the veteran’s first game since the NHL100 Classic in Ottawa. The Habs lost that the match and their number one defenceman, and the rest is history.

More from A Winning Habit

The only thing holding this back is the Habs still aren’t in a position where they need to rush things. Weber is weeks ahead of schedule and the team could afford to have him sit a little longer. Brett Kulak was just called up and the coaching staff may want to take a good look at him pending any other roster moves.

But hopefully, we see Weber on the ice for the national anthem(s), puck drop, and a couple of goal horns next week. If not, the game of patience continues.
