Max Domi and his rising stock with the Montreal Canadiens

Max Domi is continuing to leave his mark within the Montreal Canadiens history books as he has extended his point streak to 11 games.
There have been two point streaks that have garnered the attention among fans in the NHL, and both were at risk of being ended in the last two days. The first being Mike Hoffman of the Florida Panthers followed by our very own Max Domi of the Montreal Canadiens.
Hoffman was running on a 15-game point streak and almost had it expire as the Panthers were on their way to a 6-5 victory over the Ottawa Senators. But in the final two minutes of the game, the former Senator was sprung on a breakaway beating Mike McKenna for his ninth goal of the season.
Domi was in a similar situation Wednesday night. The 23-year-old entered the contest on a 10-game point streak. Who knows how he feels about that, but it’s a special feat for Domi to accomplish this in his first season with the Habs. Unfortunately, the game wasn’t going to the way the team would’ve liked.
It was 5-1 by the start of the third period, and it looked as if Domi’s point streak was coming to an end. His line got Montreal’s first goal of the game via Jonathan Drouin, but Andrew Shaw had the lone assist. But by the halfway mark of the third, fans started to accept the loss and hope that Domi could extend his streak somehow.

Well, he did. Domi’s deflected shot arced perfectly over Keith Kinkaid for his 11th goal of the season. And that, in turn, would extend his point streak to 11 games.
Domi is now the sixth player in Montreal Canadiens history to have a streak of at least 11 in his first season with the team. Additionally, he is now tied with Denis Savard and Bert Olmstead for that honour.
One more game and Domi ties Vincent Damphousse. Another one surpasses that and ties, Pierre Turgeon. And if Domi reaches 14, he can tie Joe Malone. For a brief history lesson, Malone scored five goals in the team’s first game back in 1917 against the Ottawa Senators. That’s a serious group of names for Domi to be included with. It’s an already impressive feat as it is, and it can only get better from here.
The 23-year-old has six goals and nine assists in this point streak. His 26-point total is first on the Montreal Canadiens and has him in a six-way tie amongst the other leaders in the NHL including the likes of John Tavares, Patrice Bergeron, and Leon Draisaitl.
As examined in a previous post, speed, grit, and tenacity have been big weapons for Domi this year, and he’s getting the production for it. Whether he continues to surpass those historical names or not, Domi has placed a gigantic stamp on the Montreal Canadiens.

Everyone said that he was destined to play in a large hockey market as he had the personality and attitude to do so. Well, he’s proven those claims in through 22 games and Domi isn’t showing a single sign of that flame being put out.
