Martineau Streaking with Komets

If he keeps up the pace, Habs prospect Phelix Martineau may be coming home for the holidays.

Following a five-point weekend, the Laval Quebec native now has seven points through his first five games with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL. Montreal inked the diminutive but dangerous forward to a minor league deal this past summer following a promising, if not impressive four year run in the Q with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

Martineau was immediately assigned to Fort Wayne, where he quickly regained the form he displayed briefly with the Komets last year when he totalled three points in three games late in the season before putting up eight points in ten playoff games. Martineau now has 18 points in his first 18 ECHL games and is quickly proving he doesn’t belong in that league, and with Laval currently struggling to score goals and mired in a slump, he might be home just in time to celebrate the holidays with his family.

Habs Representing at Russia-CHL Series

The Russia-CHL hockey road tour is once again underway, with Montreal contributing an impressive six players to the annual event. Formerly known as the “Super Series,” the six-game tourney pits top prospects from the Russian national team against All-Star squads from the WHL, OHL and QMJHL. 2018 second round draft Alexander Romanov is the sole Habs representative on the Russian team, while the remaining five prospects are Canadians spread out amongst the three CHL regional leagues.

The WHL is represented by defencemen Josh Brook and Scott Walford, the OHL by forwards Nick Suzuki and Cam Hillis, while fellow forward Joel Teasdale makes up the Habs QMJHL contingent.  The CHL holds a decisive 61-29 overall lead in wins since the inception of the tournament in 2003.
