Montreal Canadiens Prospect Tracker: Hats and Apples in the CHL

MISSISSAUGA, ON - OCTOBER 6: Michael Pezzetta
MISSISSAUGA, ON - OCTOBER 6: Michael Pezzetta

It’s another week and another Montreal Canadiens Prospect Tracker. Jarret Tyszka and Michael Pezzetta are starting to heat up again while the rest seem to be in a funk.

If things continue to trend the way they are with the Montreal Canadiens, the prospect tracker is going to become more and more important. Let’s check out what they’ve been up to this week.

Week of October 27th – November 2nd

Will Bitten

The slump continues for the Hamilton Bulldogs who went 0-2-1. Bitten managed to have a single assist in the team’s 8-2 shelling to the Peterborough Petes.

Season Total: 3 goals 10 assists

Michael Pezzetta

It looks like the new ‘C’ on his sweater has taken Pezzetta’s game to a new level. He had a lot of individual success this week putting up four points in four games. Three of them were from his hat trick on Saturday night. Sure two of the goals were empty-netters, but getting your first career hat trick is a great accomplishment.

Pezzetta has always been a hardworking player, but his speed and work ethic have been more apparent lately. Talk about leading by example.

Season Total: 7 goals 8 assists

Jarret Tyszka

The Thunderbirds’ defenceman played in three of the team’s five games. Tyszka has made the best of his time on the ice putting up four assists.

Season Total: 11 assists

Cale Fleury

Goals have continued to come Fleury’s way as he finished this week with two of them. Both were in the team’s 5-4 win against Red Deer on Sunday. The first opened the scoring 1:09 into the first period whereas the second was the overtime winner on the power play. If Fleury continues this production, he’ll eclipse his goal total from last year (11) in no time.

Season Total: 5 goals 3 assists

More from Prospects

Scott Walford

The Victoria Royals were able to sweep their weekend series against the Vancouver Giants. Walford had two assists over the two games. Additionally, he was a +2 in the Sunday game bringing his plus/minus to +11 on the season so far. It’s an overlooked stat now, but to be on the ice for so much offence is more proof that Walford is doing the right things as a defenceman.

Joni Ikonen

On a positive note, Ikonen had an assist in KalPa’s 3-2 win against Jukurit. Additionally, his ice time has increased where he played around the 12 minute mark in both games. Ikonen has been better than he was at the beginning of the season, but his offence has been severely limited.

The 2017 2nd round pick was named to Team Finland for the Leijonat Under 20 Tournament. Everything starts on November 3rd, and hopefully Ikonen can have some success and bring that back to KalPa.

Season Total: 2 assists

Lukas Vejdemo

Vejdemo is getting better and better each week. His assist on Saturday’s game was a prime example of his improved play as he broke up the pass which led to a breakaway and game winning goal from Axel Jonsson-Fjällby. It took 34 fewer games, but Vejdemo has tied his point total from last season.

Season Total: 4 goals 4 assists

Arvid Henrikson

Henrikson didn’t manage to put a point in Orebro HK’s three games this week. Fortunately, he’s doing the little things to help the team win as they took 2/3. He’ll probably be looking for some more stability moving around the lineup and playing with different people.

Season Total: 5 assists

Casey Staum

Staum has continued to have a quiet season with the Dubuque Fighting Saints. He played in both of the team’s wins last weekend but had no points.

Season Total: 0 points

Hayden Hawkey

It was a Boston filled weekend for Providence College facing Boston College and then Boston University. Fortunately, the managed to beat them both with Hawkey between the posts. The 22-year-old stopped 22 of 23 shots against BC and put up a 22 save shutout against BU. Hawkey was named one of Hockey East’s Defensive Players of the week for his performance.

Nikolas Koberstein

University of Alaska-Fairbanks lost one and tied the other against Bowling Green. The defenceman managed a single assist between the two games as his shot was tipped by Troy Van Tetering.

Season Total: 2 assists

Jake Evans

It looks like there’s no stopping Evans as he’s having an incredible start to his senior year. Notre Dame played a single game this week and Evans had three assists in the team’s 5-4 win. A lot of them came off of face off wins which will be ideal if he plans on making a quick impact in the Habs organization.

Season Total: 3 goals 12 assists
