Brampton Beast Weekend Recap: Down Two But Running Wild
The Brampton Beast started their regular season this past weekend including their home opener with two loses, but there’s still plenty of hockey left.
Fans of the Brampton Beast finally got their fix this past weekend as the team got their regular season started. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the start they would’ve liked. Brampton lost both of their games and will be looking for their first win this Tuesday.
Game One
The Beast started their season against the Adirondack Thunder. There was a lot of positivity going into this one considering Brampton’s record against them last year. It was a high scoring game between the two teams.

Adirondack got the first goal of the game, but the Beast answered back with a goal of their own from Thomas Ebbing. I mentioned in the preview that Ebbing has the chance of putting up a lot of numbers for the team. He’s been the team’s second line center with Jordan Boucher and Brandon Maclean on his wings. This is just the beginning for Ebbing and what he can do.
Speaking of Boucher, he had a goal that night as well after the Thunder made it 3-1. It was back and forth in the third period, but Ty Loney got the game winner for Adirondack 11 minutes into the third period.
You have to think that the result might’ve been different if the power play was able to contribute more. The Brampton Beast went 1/8 in that category.
Michael McNiven also made his professional debut as the team’s goaltender. Giving up five goals is never a good look (.853 save percentage), but the 20-year-old looked fairly steady for the most part.
Game Two
This was the team’s home opener at the Powerade Centre. There was another professional debut as Swedish goaltender Marcus Höberg got the start. The game was similar to Brampton’s previous in that they found themselves down 3-1 at the start of the third period. Boucher scored again for the Beast.
Marino made the game interesting after tipping in a shot from Matt Petgrave to bring them within a goal. Brampton kept pressing for the rest of the period but weren’t able find twine. Höberg finished the game making 28 of 31 saves and was named third star.
It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season pans out for the Beast. Their next game will be a rematch against Manchester. Hopefully they’ll find themselves in the win column after the final buzzer.
