More Montreal Canadiens prospects are starting to get into action as college hockey has started while others have reached milestones.

So far, we’ve only been tracking Montreal Canadiens prospects playing in the Canadian Hockey League (OHL and WHL) and Europe. With college hockey starting, there are another five players in the Habs system who fans can keep their eyes on. Some of them had explosive debuts to their seasons while others are still getting a feel of the new year.

Additionally there’s going to be one less update because of Cale Fleury. The 2017 3rd round pick didn’t get to play in any of the games this week after serving a three-game suspension. Thankfully it’s all over now and Habs and Thunderbirds fans should expect him to be in the line-up soon.

If I could give this week a theme, it would probably be apples. There were a lot of assists going around, more so in the CHL. However, there was also an important milestone for a player who has been working hard to get a break this season.

Week of October 6th – 12th

William Bitten

It’s definitely been frustrating for the Hamilton Bulldogs. They lost both of their games by a single goal but managed to get an extra point. Bitten had two points (assists), but struggled a little bit defensively in the Sarnia game as he was a -4.

Jarret Tyszka

Last week Jarret Tyszka had the most points among Montreal Canadiens prospects. History is repeating itself here. Tyszka put up five points (assists) over three games. The defensive game had a bit of a slump as well, especially in the 10-5 blowout loss to the Portland Winterhawks.

Michael Pezzetta

Pezzetta didn’t see too much ice time this week. Not because he was benched or anything, the Sudbury Wolves literally only played one game. It was a loss and Pezzetta had a single points. Take a guess at what that was?

Scott Walford

Walford has been one of the most intriguing defensive prospects in the system. He hasn’t been putting up too many points, but his overall play, especially his ability to make a first pass so well, has been great to watch. The points came his way this week putting up three assists in as many games. One of them was on the game winning goal against the Kamloops Blazers.

Lukas Vejdemo

It was a split result for Djurgårdens IF this week. The win went pretty well for Vejdemo who played a little over 17 minutes and scored the game winning goal off a decent deflection. Last year Vejdemo finished with eight points, not he has four. He’s well on his way to destroy that total.

Arvid Henrikson

The tides have turned for Örebro HK. They finally started to put together some wins together. Henrikson returned to the top pair and had an assist over the two games.

Joni Ikonen

It’s no mystery that Ikonen has had some struggles playing with KalPa so far. We all knew that after some time he’ll be able to produce more. It started last week where he got two assists in the team’s Champions League (CL). This week, he got an assist with KalPa (Liiga) but also scored his first pro goal in the CL.

Ryan Poehling

Now it starts to get more interesting. The team’s top pick last year has finally started to play as college hockey kicked off last weekend. St. Cloud State got a 4-0 win in their season debut. Poehling got an assist and showed great patience on it as well. Offence wasn’t really his thing last year, but it looks like that might change.

Cayden Primeau

Northeastern University started their season on October 6th, but Primeau didn’t play until the next day. He got his team the shutout in a 7-0 win against Sacred Heat and made 18 saves.

More from Prospects

Casey Staum

The Fighting Saints have struggled out of the gate losing both games. Staum played in both but was pointless in them.

Hayden Hawkey

First off, he has the best name. Anyway, Hawkey got both wins for Providence over the weekend. The first one against Miami was the 25th of his career. He saved 31/33 shots (.940 save percentage) in that Miami game and 18/20 (.900 save percentage) in the next one.

Nikolas Koberstein

Not too much going on with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. They faced the Air Force Academy twice losing the first game and tying the other. Koberstein was pointless in both.

Jake Evans

This was the highlight of the Montreal Canadiens college prospects. What a debut that was for Evans. The 21-year-old had two goals and an assist in Notre Dame’s season opener. One goal was on the power play and the second was an empty netter. His next game went just as good as he put up two assists. One of the assists was on the game winner after Evans broke up a play.
