History – Again

It’s been a historic year for the Canadiens, in so many ways. Carey Price alone has broken – and set new records in goaltending. But Game 5’s win set a new record for this franchise.

In all of its 106 years as a hockey club, the Habs have never forced a Game 6 when down 0-3 in a playoff round. This game is now historic.

And it makes me wonder: given that there are only 4 times teams have come back from a 3-game deficit to win the series, could the Habs be on their way to being the 5th?

Of course all hopes are heading higher with every win.

But as we’ve been reminded so many times:

 Best Post-Game Reactions:

An instant hug from Pacioretty to Carey Price as soon as the goaltender rose at the final buzzer even as fights broke out close by (Pacioretty skated off and was instantly involved in the chaos):

Team owner and president, Geoff Molson (in full playoff beard), grinning ear-to-ear in the tunnel welcoming the players as the Habs exited the rink to head to the dressing room. As well, trainers, equipment managers, security personnel in the same area, all smiling and applauding the team.

This, from the room, post-game:

"This will forever be the cutest thing I've ever seen"

Post-game statements from each player just cements what we know about this team: they are realistic, they are confident, they are ready for the challenges, but they’re not ready to go home for the summer.

Some of the more notable quotes:

(I think he spoke for everyone watching this game – it was that kind of emotional ride)

And the hero of the night:

This is still a long road for the Habs to walk. They’re halfway to where they need to be; but they’re kicking up a lot of dust as they travel this path, with no signs of letting up.

Game 6 will be another One To Watch. Hopes are higher, and fans, who might have been morose just a few days ago, are suddenly very much in the Believe column.

No matter what, the hearts and character of every player on this team are shining more brightly than ever before. So why shouldn’t we believe? They do. We owe them our confidence; I’m convinced it fuels them.
