Montreal Canadiens netminder Samuel Montembeault is heading into the season with a new mask that features a tribute to the late great Ken Dryden. Sylabrush designed the mask and shared a video showcasing the airbrushing process for the new helmet artwork. Montembeault continues with that cyborg theme that we saw last season, but has added a picture of Dryden in his iconic pose with his number 29 below it. This is not the first time Montembeault has featured Dryden on his mask, as he had both his and Jacques Plante's iconic masks feature on his helmet last season.

It is a touching tribute to the Canadiens legend following his passing on September 5th after a battle with cancer. While Dryden’s NHL career was brief, lasting only eight seasons, he was able to accomplish more than most players could in a 20-year career. The Hamilton, Ontario-born netminder won a Conn Smythe, Calder Memorial, and five Vezina Trophies to go along with six Stanley Cups. However, he was more than just a hockey player, achieving just as much off the ice as he did on it. Whether it was his academic prowess, his political career, or his writing career, which saw his book “The Game” become a staple read for hockey fans everywhere. Dryden's legacy will never be forgotten and will always be remembered as more than just a great netminder.
