The Montreal Canadiens are going to be very busy at the upcoming NHL Draft. They have been accumulating picks for this draft for years, and are poised to add a lot of depth, and high end talent, to their prospect pool.

The Canadiens went into last year’s draft with more than a dozen picks, but ultimately swapped a few of them for selections in this year’s event. They also were sellers at the trade deadline and netted a few extra picks in deals leading up to the trade deadline.

They added a late first round pick from the Calgary Flames as part of the Tyler Toffoli deal. They have an extra second round pick thanks to a Brett Kulak trade to the Edmonton Oilers. There is an extra third round pick courtesy the Jesperi Kotkaniemi offer sheet. An extra fourth round pick comes from part of the Ben Chiarot trade to the Florida Panthers.

Add in a couple of minor swaps that flipped third and seventh round picks from last year to this year and the Canadiens have extra picks in every round except for the 5th and 6th. It is going to make for an exciting couple of days especially considering the NHL Draft is being held inside the Bell Centre on July 7th and 8th.

So, when exactly do the Canadiens pick? It is hard to keep track with so many selections at their disposal. The Habs have a total of 14 picks right now in the seven round event. We don’t know if they will keep them all, but right now here is where they are slated to pick at the 2022 NHL Draft.

Round 1: 1st Overall Pick

Round 1 26th Overall Pick

Round 2: 33nd Overall Pick

Round 2: 62nd Overall Pick

Round 3: 66th Overall Pick

Round 3: 75th Overall Pick

Round 3: 92nd Overall Pick

Round 4: 98th Overall Pick

Round 4: 127th Overall Pick

Round 4: 128th Overall Pick

Round 5: 130th Overall Pick

Round 6: 162nd Overall Pick

Round 7: 194th Overall Pick

Round 7: 216th Overall Pick

It is unlikely that the Canadiens keep and use all 14 of these picks. But having so many makes it easy for them to move up if they want, or swap a few for picks in next year’s draft which is supposed to be deeper.

One thing is for certain, whether it is by trades or by actual picks, the Canadiens are going to be extremely busy during the NHL Draft and it will be exciting for fans to follow along.
