Former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Charlie Lindgren will finally get a taste of the NHL playoffs. He has been called up on an emergency basis after the St. Louis Blues announced that their starting goaltender, Jordan Binnington, will not be returning against the Colorado Avalanche this series.
Binnington suffered what is officially a lower body injury after a collision with Nazem Kadri. You can see from the clip that it looks like the knee seems to have gotten the blunt of the trauma.
During an interview discussing the event, Nazem Kadri had a water bottle thrown at him and Kadri said it looked like Binnington threw the bottle at him.
In six playoff appearances, Binnington went 4-1 with a 1.72 goals against average and a .949 save percentage. Ville Husso, who came in relief after the injury, will get the start in Game 4 while Lindgren will serve as the backup. Game 4 is scheduled on Monday at 9:30 PM ET.
Lindgren had a record of 24-7-1 in 34 games with 3 shutouts this season for the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. He also got the starts for games 1 and 3 of the Atlantic Division SemiFinals against the Wilkes-Barre Penguins, getting the victory in both games. Game one saw Lindgren register 50 saves and letting in only one goal. Game three was a little more rocky for the former Canadiens as he let in 6 goals but still registered the win as Springfield swept the series in 3 games in the best of 5 series.
He also played 5 games for the Blues this season, starting in 4 of them. He held a perfect 5-0-0 record with a sparkling 1.22 goals against average and .958 save percentage. One of those wins came against the Canadiens last December.
Springfield will ride with Joel Hoffer who got the win in game 2, while Colten Ellis will serve as the backup. The Falcons play Game 1 of the Atlantic Division Finals on Sunday Night against the Charlotte Checkers.
