Our “Meet A Habs Fan” series continues and this time brings us in the rocky mountains of British Columbia. Here we a fan who grew up in a household that cheered for both the Leafs and the Habs! Thankfully, his brother saw the light and was a positive influence. Meet Danny Fedorek.

I am from Sparwood BC a small town in southeastern British Columbia. My father was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and my older brother was a Habs fan, so I tagged along with him. I remember watching games with both of them and I was upset when Toronto won the cup in 1967.

As I got older my favorite player was Guy Lafleur. Lots of great memories but the top one was in 1986. My brother and I drove to Calgary and slept in my Camaro so we could get in line for tickets for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. We bought 2 tickets from some guy that was selling his tickets for the game. After the Habs won my brother climbed over the glass and celebrated with the Habs players. He was on TV more than the team.

On the 30th anniversary of the win Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette wrote an article about us talking about hockey and dementia as my brother had been diagnosed with dementia before that.

"“He got more airtime over the next few years …. he was out there hugging John Kordic and going around with all the players,” Dan recalled. “It was our five minutes of fame. I managed to get on the ice right at the very end when they were giving the Cup to Serge Savard and my brother was standing there with all the other players. I got about two seconds of airtime, but he was famous for it.” – From Stu Cowan interview, 2016"

We had also made a trip to Montreal to see 3 games at the Forum and also went to the opening game at the Molson Centre, as well as the 2009 All Star game, the 100th anniversary game and Guy Lapointe ‘s jersey retirement game.

I have also gone to Montreal numerous times with my son who also has this crazy addiction. I have about 30 jerseys, autographed from different Habs players. I think we are going to get better in the coming years as we have a good young core of players. Looking forward to seeing another Stanley Cup soon.
