Canadiens: Chris Nilan Attacks Jonathan Drouin On Twitter
Jonathan Drouin’s tenure with the Montreal Canadiens has not been an easy one. Ever since being traded to the Canadiens in 2017 in return for Mikhail Sergachev, the former 3rd overall pick has been under the intense Montreal microscope.
Having gone through several mountains of critique from fans and media alike, including some admitted critics from yours truly on occasion, Drouin never seemed to have reached the peak of his potential the hockey world thought they would see from the former Halifax Moosehead.
Since 2020, Drouin has gone through a series of injuries, mostly on his wrists, along with personal issues that has forced him to take personal time off and miss the entirety of the 21-22 playoffs.
Former Montreal Canadiens enforcer Chris Nilan has had enough. He took to Twitter on Saturday and filmed himself in his car, while driving on the highway, and unleashes on Drouin without holding back. The tweet has since been deleted but it more or so went like this:
Oh my God! Jonathan Drouin isn’t playing tonight? Come on! Oh my god! What’s going on now Jonathan? Oh my god! Watch the game! It’s safer to watch it from home!” – Chris Nilan
This isn’t the first time that “Knuckles” drilled Drouin on social media. Whatever bone he has to pick with him, he never held back any critique when it comes to #92.
On Monday afternoon however, Nilan took to Twitter again, this time to apologize to Drouin for his antics.
A lot can be said about Drouin, however it’s always shocking when a former player attacks another player in any shape, way or form. Nilan would know more than most the pressures of playing for a team like the Canadiens or the Boston Bruins as he has. That being said however, even if it took time, Nilan showed humility and took the time to apologize. Props to that.
Drouin has re-aggravated his injured wrist while trying to come back with the team last week. Kent Hughes gave an update and said that they are looking for a second opinion in order to know what the best treatment would be. He’s expected to miss the rest of the season.
Jonathan Drouin celebrates his 27th birthday on Monday, as written in Joshua Rosa’s recent “This Week In Habs History” article.
