The Montreal Canadiens are getting ready to battle against the team that’s fighting for the first overall pick tonight, but they will do so without their best defenseman in Ben Chiarot.

Chiarot will be a healthy scratch for tonight’s game as precaution. The rumors involving Chiarot in a trade have amped up in the last few days and it is only a matter of time before he packs his bags to a rival club.
Furthermore, a few local fake insiders have promised the deliverance of a blockbuster trade involving the Canadiens and St.Louis Blues. These reports are false as no team is a clear contender at the time of this writing.
The Calgary Flames are still interested in Chiarot though they seem more reluctant to deliver the asking price of Ken Hughes, which would likely involve either a first round pick or first round prospect. The New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and even the St.Louis Blues are reported to have shown the most interest in Chiarot.
It was rumored that the Calgary Flames made an offer in order to acquire both Tyler Toffoli and Chiarot but that fell through due to insufficient cap space on Calgary’s part. This might be the main reason that sparked the recent Jakob Pelletier rumors.
Corey Schueneman will replace Ben Chiarot in the lineup against the Coyotes. Louie Belpedio has been spotted with the team this morning and could see some action this week if Brett Kulak is traded or becomes a healthy scratch. Officially Belpedio is still with the Rocket and hasn’t been officially called up yet. He was spotted at the game against the Flyers on Sunday after he had played against Wilkes-Barre Scranton. He was back in Laval this morning for the Rockets practice.
The Canadiens will also have some decisions to make between the pipes as Jake Allen is slated to return this week. All avenues are being explored as recent reports of talks with the New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild have happened.
Whatever comes down between now and Monday’s trade deadline will likely give us an indication as to what direction the team will be taking.
