The Montreal Canadiens have had the worst luck with injuries this season. It seems everyone not named Nick Suzuki has at some point landed in the team clinic for an ailment of sorts. One much needed player due to make his comeback this week is goaltender Jake Allen.

Allen has been dealing with a lower body injury since the holidays. After skipping a few starts he came back against the Bruins in January but aggravated his injury.

In a perfect world, Allen would return on Tuesday to face the Coyotes since Samuel Montembeault has goaltended back-to-back games this weekend against the Kraken and Flyers. Once he does return, expect Cayden Primeau to be sent down to Laval where he will be fighting with a red hot Kevin Poulin for playing time.

Having Allen back would create an interesting scenario. Depending on his health of course, many teams will likely give Kent Hughes a call in order to evaluate his availability and price to pay in order to obtain him via a trade. Allen has a very team friendly contract with one year left at a $2.875 million cap hit.

Recently, we looked at possible scenarios regarding a Jake Allen return. With Andrew Hammond injured and Carey Price working like a mad man in order to come back this season, it will be interesting to see if Hughes will even consider trading Allen.

Trading Jake Allen can only mean one thing. That the Canadiens will invest in Samuel Montembeault as the backup for next season, and that Carey Price will be ready to come back sooner than we think.

With the flock of injured players close to returning, which aside from Allen include Jonathan Drouin and Christian Dvorak, it will be interesting what the makeup of the team will look like as we approach the March 21st trade deadline with haste.
