David Quinn is very likely to be a name linked to the Montreal Canadiens for the Associate Coach position. The former New York Rangers bench boss was a hire of Jeff Gorton and was ultimately fired after the 20-21 season when Chris Drury was fully set into his GM seat.

The former Boston University alumni and coach comes with a wealth of experience and success coaching young players but his success didn’t necessarily translate to the NHL level. He was recently Head Coach of Team USA at the Beijing Olympics where the team finished 5th. His candidacy might be hurt however after he came under fire after not using Matthew Beniers in the five-round shootout that the Americans ultimately lost. Shades of Nagano and Wayne Gretzky for the older folks.

Many members of the media and internally in the NHL claim that Quinn’s three season resume as Head Coach of the Rangers was not a full picture of Quinn’s abilities.
