Well, the first game of the season is in the books, and the Toronto Maple Leafs grinded out a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens. There were things to like about the game, and things that absolutely must be worked on in the coming days. Some seem simple, some are are more than skin deep.

Early in the first period Jonathan Drouin scored the first goal for the Canadiens in the 2021-22 season, and there is no one else better to get it. Later in the period, Pierre Engvall retaliated for Toronto on the power play. The second period was quiet, as was most of the third outside of the snipe from William Nylander that gave the Maple Leafs the win.
