Jeff Petry

Although he hasn’t worn an “A” on his sweater full time, Petry has donned a letter on occasion. When Weber has been out of the lineup with injuries in the past, sometimes Petry would be tasked with adding an uppercase A on the front of his jersey.

Petry first joined the Canadiens in 2015 when he was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers in a trade and he seems to get better every single season. This past year, he scored 12 goals which is one short of a career high, though he played only 55 games and his 42 points were tied for 7th in the NHL among blue liners.

Petry led the team in average ice time last year logging 22:44 per game and was pivotal in getting the team to the Stanley Cup Final. He returned quickly from a nasty hand injury to help the team in the third round of the playoffs against the Vegas Golden Knights, taking up his regular role in the team’s top four as well as the power play and penalty kill.

He does it all on the ice for the Canadiens, and at age 33 is a natural leader for the younger players to look up to in the dressing room. Petry just signed a four year extension that kicks in next season at a very reasonable $6.25 million per year, taking a little less than he is worth so the team had more money to spend in the offseason.

What more could you ask for from a leader?
