Zach L’Heureux

Zach L’Heureux could see himself slide to the end of the first round tonight. He has an intriguing assortment of skills that could very well see him taken earlier though and not be available when the Canadiens finally get to make their pick sometime around midnight tonight.

L’Heureux is a feisty winger that would fit in tremendously well with an organization that has had Brendan Gallagher as its engine for nearly the past decade. The two wingers share many similarities in their game.

While L’Heureux isn’t a really big player at 5’11” and 196 pounds, he likes to get his nose dirty in the corners, during the play, after the play, before the play even begins sometimes. He is the type of winger that would be described as “scrappy” quite often on broadcasts and would surely get under the opponent’s skin on a nightly basis.

That is what he has been doing in the QMJHL for the past two seasons. More importantly, he has been putting up a pile of points as well.

He was taken with the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 QMJHL and then led all rookies in scoring with 53 points in 55 games for the Moncton Wildcats. After his rookie season he was dealt to the Halifax Mooseheads where he scored 19 goals and 39 points in 33 games this season.

Averaging a point per game in the QMJHL before turning 18 in May of this year is quite impressive for the feisty winger. He would be a tremendous add to the Canadiens prospect pipeline.
