The Montreal Canadiens could hit the jackpot by drafting Hendrix Lapierre

If Hendrix Lapierre falls to the second round, the Habs should do whatever they can to try to select him. It will likely be tough to take him there as Montreal won’t be selecting again until pick 37, and I doubt he’s still there at that point.

Perhaps the Montreal Canadiens get a second first-round pick. This would be the most ideal scenario again with all the complementary hype this year’s draft is getting. Marc Bergevin is one of the hardest general managers to predict and with another season ahead loaded to the brim with playoff expectations, it could push him to be active in the offseason. And if it isn’t that, the chaos from a flat salary cap may do the trick.

What if Max Domi is moved, and by combining the trade with one of their seconds, the Habs are able to squeak into the latter half of the first round? Some mock drafts have Lapierre in the 17-27 range, which would be perfect for the Montreal Canadiens if Lapierre is on their radar.

They’ve definitely seen him play as Lapierre is on the same team as other Habs prospect Samuel Houde who was heading into a season where he needed to stand out to gain that entry-level deal. I would be surprised if Montreal wasn’t at the very least interested.

The organization has enough playmakers in the organization, but there’s a great deal of talent within Lapierre. He’s usually the most noticeable player on the ice, and that’s significant for a team with a lot of skill. And it’s not only in the QMJHL, but Lapierre was also a star for Team Canada playing for Team Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup where he posted 11 points in 5 games.

Next. What to expect from Cole Caufield. dark

Lapierre’s ceiling is phenomenal, and although there is a great deal of risk, it could come down to being one of the most profitable moves the Montreal Canadiens make.
