The Positive Side

Carey Price is dialled in.

Price has had a few complications with injuries and fatigue after that incredible 2014-15 season where he led all goaltenders in save percentage and took home for trophies in June including the Vezina and the Hart. Additionally, you can argue the Montreal Canadiens were on a good track to make the Stanley Cup in the 2014 playoffs before Price was taken out of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Since then, different circumstances have kept Price from playing his best, or the Habs have missed the playoffs from their own issues. Last season it was scoring, especially the on the powerplay which would cost the team games despite Price standing on his head.

The Montreal Canadiens may not have had the flashiest offseason, but perhaps some improved individual performances can help them make the playoffs and go on a run. All eyes are on Jonathan Drouin to improve and for Jesperi Kotkanieni to take it up the next level this season. You also have to ask whether Ryan Poehling and Nick Suzuki – if he makes the team – can have an immediate impact on the roster.

Then there’s the defence. Can Victor Mete be a steady partner for Shea Weber on the top pair? Is Ben Chiarot steady enough to help prevent scoring chances? Can Keith Kinkaid be a stable enough backup for Price to get rest when he needs it?

These are all the questions Price will have running through his head as it’ll increase the likelihood of the Montreal Canadiens being able to accomplish something special this year. If he is as determined as these sets of comments could appear to look like, then the Habs will have a powerful goaltender behind them this season.
