Max Domi has been a highly discussed name over the last few weeks, but thankfully, the topic here won’t be whether the Montreal Canadiens choose to trade him or not (please don’t). Ken has been beating the drum of “The Habs need to sign Domi sooner than later” ever since all this chaos started with the RFAs.

The 24-year-old had an incredible year with the Canadiens and would be within his right to wait. Not only is there the chance of him surpassing what he accomplished last season, but Domi will be on the hunt for comparables. Enter Clayton Keller.

The Keller deal is pretty polarizing at the moment. Coyotes fans are happy Keller is signed. However, the cap hit could be a little premature. This is definitely one of those, “Hey, we think you’re good and that the salary cap is going to go up” kind of deals.

Keller put up 14 foals and 33 assists for 47 points to finish his sophomore year in the NHL. Not the best and surely not worth $7.15 million a season. His rookie season, on the other hand, was great as Keller scored 23 goals and 42 assists for a total of 65 points.

Arizona has dabbled with playing Keller down the middle, but he’s mostly slotted in along the wall where he’s been the most successful. Odds are he gets more time at centre this upcoming season and possibly with Phil Kessel. These are still a lot of ifs and buts here.

If Keller can return to that 60-point output and does it at centre, the Arizona Coyotes are going to look like geniuses. Until then, it’ll be a waiting game.
