2) Is there anyway Karl Alzner plays another game with the Montreal Canadiens? If so, what are the circumstances?

SH: Karl Alzner… The most polarizing player under contract with the Canadiens. I actually do believe there is a chance he suits up for another game with the Habs, minimal as that chance may be. This is due to the fact that the trend of “the best player wins the job” from last season will presumably carry over to the 2019-20 season. This is the reason that Alzner lost his position in the NHL and is the only way for him to regain it.

As things currently stand, Alzner sits somewhere around the sixth left-handed defenseman on the depth chart; behind Mete, Kulak, Chiarot, Reilly and Ouellet, while Olofsson has not yet proven himself in the organization. Despite this, if Alzner were to magically enter training camp with a newly-found speed that would allow him to keep up with the new fast-paced NHL, he could easily climb up past Ouellet and Reilly, making him the first call-up when a left-defenseman gets injured.

While the chances of this are slim, they are perhaps better than the chances of him being traded. My guess would be that he will play on the second or third pairing in Laval this season, but I would welcome a pleasant surprise.

DD: It is possible but extremely unlikely. The only way I see him playing another game with the Canadiens is if he outright wins the job during training camp. The odds of that happening are little to none, in my honest opinion. We have to hope that is the only way he plays for the team again because the only other way I see it happening is if we have a ton of injuries to our defensemen, knock on wood. We already have Mete, Kulak and Chiarot on the left side, not to mention Reilly as an option as well.
