Cole Caufield wore 13 when the Montreal Canadiens took him 15th overall, but a new season ahead at the University of Wisconsin carries with it a new number.

Before being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, Cole Caufield was already dominating the opposition on the ice. It made him falling so far a beautiful surprise for the organization, and he’s gone on to give fans a lot to be excited for.

The stats speak for itself with Caufield putting up 72 goals in his draft year. Development camp was another stage for Caufield who put his shooting and scoring ability on display. It’ll take some time before he’s in a Habs jersey full time, but when that happens, it’s unlikely he does that in his go-to number.

Caufield wore 13 at the US National Development Program when he was setting records. With Max Domi already wearing 13 for the Montreal Canadiens, Caufield switched to 36 and scored some nice shootout goals along the way.

Next season, Caufield will be heading to college playing for the University of Wisconsin, and with that change comes another change in numbering.

Caufield is moving down to a single digit and will be wearing number eight for the Badgers.

Looking at the Habs history, the last to wear it was Jordie Benn who has moved on to the Vancouver Canucks. Before Benn was Brandon Prust, Greg Pateryn, and Mike Komisarek. Not the best track record, but if anyone brings elite success to eight, it’ll be Caufield (assuming he keeps it once in the NHL).
