Montreal Canadiens: What to know ahead of Free Agent Frenzy

Loaded Dallas
Speaking of Radulov, the Dallas Stars are loading up via free agency as well. Former San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski is signing in Dallas for three years at $7 million. Pavelski could’ve been a solid option for the Montreal Canadiens adding significant scoring upside despite his age. The 34-year-old is one of the best puck tipper in the league, and a combination of him and Jeff Petry along the point would’ve been deadly for the power play.
The Stars continued with bringing in Corey Perry, another possibility for the Habs. Perry isn’t the player he was and it’s seen his skating take a massive fall over the years thanks to the number of knee injuries and procedures he’s needed. Similar to Pavelski, Perry could’ve been a good option to park on the man advantage if a deal was there.
Simmonds?
Even though teams are locking in on players left and right, there are still some who have no key destination yet. One of which being Wayne Simmonds who the Montreal Canadiens met with earlier in the week.
Simmonds has had his offence tumble a bit and his short stint with the Nashville Predators was far from ideal. He’s gotten really close to 30 goals twice in his career and surpassed the milestone twice. The 2016-17 season was his last productive year putting up 31 goals and 23 assists, but it’s slowly fallen scoring 24 goals the year after and 17 this past season (only one with the Preds).
