Montreal Canadiens Prospects Won Impressive Awards This Season
Cayden Primeau
Acquired: 2017 NHL Draft, 7th round pick, 199th overall
2018-19 team: Northeastern University, NCAA
Likely 2019-20 team: Laval Rocket
The Montreal Canadiens made what seemed like a tiny trade in the waning moments of the 2017 NHL Draft. They swapped a future 7th round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft for the 199th pick. Thus far, it has turned out to be a great trade for the Habs.

Primeau has been the starting goaltender for the Northeastern Huskies for the past two years after being selected by the Habs. He has been nothing short of fantastic in those two years.
The Voorhees, New Jersey native, posted a stellar 1.92 goals-against average as a freshman in 2017-18. He also had a .931 save percentage and was one of five finalists for the Mike Richter Award as the NCAA’s top goaltender.
This season, Primeau posted a 2.09 GAA with a .933 SV% and for the second straight year led his team to a Beanpot Title. He was named MVP of the Boston area tournament both years. For his work, Primeau was also named the winner of the Mike Richter Award this year.
Primeau also backstopped the USA to a silver medal at the World Junior Championships in January. In five games, Primeau had a 1.61 GAA with a .936 SV%. He will likely be the starting goaltender for the Laval Rocket next season and should see the bulk of starts.
