The Montreal Canadiens made a depth signing when they added Joel Teasdale to their prospect pool. However, the winger is proving to be one of the team’s top prospects.

The Montreal Canadiens have a number of prospects who are intriguing for the fan base. Joel Teasdale’s name rarely comes up in the top prospect conversation.

The Montreal Canadiens have a number of top prospects all over the globe. Jesperi Kotkaniemi cracked the big league roster. Ryan Poehling and Cayden Primeau played NCAA hockey in the USA this season. Josh Brook had a great season in western Canada. Nick Suzuki tore up the Ontario Hockey League.

Jesse Ylonen turned some heads in Finland. Alex Romanov’s strong play in Russia showed he was not a reach as a second round pick.

All of these young players earned a lot of ink this season. However, Teasdale has somehow flown under the radar while playing pretty much in the Canadiens backyard.

Joel Teasdale is currently in his fourth season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He spent the first three and a half playing for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. He couldn’t get any closer to the Bell Centre as a Junior player, and the Habs brass obviously kept an eye on him.

More from Prospects

Teasdale was a free agent invite to the Montreal Canadiens training camp a year ago. He was coming off a 32 goal and 65 point season in 65 games, yet went undrafted. He followed that season up with 21 points in 22 games as the Armada went all the way to the QMJHL final before bowing out to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

Teasdale played well enough at the Habs camp to earn an entry-level contract. He has gone on this season to make Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin look like a genius for taking a shot on the local kid.

The 6’0″ and 203-pound left winger has exploded offensively since being dealt to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at midseason. He had 38 points in 37 games with the Armada but notched 24 goals and 42 points in just 29 games with the Huskies.

Playoff hockey has not slowed him down at all. Teasdale has 11 goals and 26 points in 14 games. He is leading the Huskies in points as they gear up for the QMJHL Finals.

The Huskies will be playing the Halifax Mooseheads for the right to take home the President’s Cup. Since the Mooseheads are hosting the Memorial Cup in May, both teams will be heading to Junior hockey’s prestigious event.

It will be an excellent opportunity for the Canadiens’ least discussed top prospect to make an impact and put his name out there to the hockey world. Perhaps, after making a name for himself at the Memorial Cup, we won’t be surprised when he becomes a key contributor for the Laval Rocket next season.
