Montreal Canadiens second-round pick Alexander Romanov is currently taking part at the CSKA Moscow training camp in the KHL in hopes to make the team.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi isn’t the only Montreal Canadiens prospect at a training camp. According to Grant McCagg, 2018 second-round pick Alexander Romanov is taking part at CSKA Moscow’s camp in the KHL.

Romanov had played under the CSKA garb before as he was a member of the U18 team in April. The young defenceman saw three games putting up two goals and an assist. He was part of Krasnaya Armiya Moskva of the MHL (junior hockey league in Russia) for the majority of the season scoring 14 points in 27 games. However, making CSKA’s roster as an 18-year-old would be a special moment for him and the Montreal Canadiens.

An 18-year-old who played on CSKA Moscow as an 18-year-old who comes to mind is Alexey Marchenko seeing 23 games for them as a defender in the 2010-11 season.

More from A Winning Habit

The rest of camp stretches throughout the entirety of August which will include some on-ice participation. CSKA will play two exhibition games against Admiral on the 9th and 10th, as well as the international preseason tournament and Moscow’s Mayor Cup. Hopefully, Romanov gets the chance to play in some of these games and show the coaching staff that he can play up to KHL standard.

Even if Romanov doesn’t make the team out of camp, he’ll still benefit from this training camp. Additionally, a solid MHL season could see him get the call to play at some point during the season. The Moscow native remains as the most mysteries prospect from the 2018 Draft Class. And it’ll be interesting to see what he does this upcoming season and whether the word is true that he is a potential steal for the Montreal Canadiens.
