Montreal Canadiens: Victor Mete is good at more than hockey
By Omar L
The Montreal Canadiens as well as the rest of the world enjoyed Super Bowl LII and just like his team did earlier, Victor Mete pulled off the pool win.
Last night was one of the biggest sporting events of the year. The New England Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles giving them their first Super Bowl Victory in franchise history. Ironically, it had an element of hockey in it with the TSN turning point of Tom Brady’s fumble in the fourth quarter. A lot of people tuned in, including the Montreal Canadiens who had their own pool going.
Phillip Danault had the lead when the Patriots were up 33-31, but Victor Mete swung in for the final decider. What a perfect set of qualities to have in a future top four defenceman. Not only does he have the skating ability and hockey IQ, but he has the mind to make the right decisions both on and off the ice (or field if we’re staying consistent). Sure there’s a level of luck to it, but at the end of the day, Mete got the win.
The 19-year-old is also starting to find the scoreboard again as he finished the weekend with two assists. Mete saw a minute increase against the Ottawa Senators, and he deserved every extra second on the ice. His play away from the puck was solid, and he stood out speed wise over a lot of the Sens players including Erik Karlsson.

It would be nice to see Mete play higher in the lineup, but slotting in beside David Schlemko does give him the chance to spread his wings a little bit.
Hopefully, when or if Shea Weber returns, the Habs choose to revisit that pairing with him and Mete. He’s a different player than what he was at the beginning of the season and would look even better than he did then.
The only thing left for Mete this year is to find the back of the net for the first time in his career. Based on the way he’s been playing and his opportunities on the power play, it wouldn’t shock anyone to see him get it soon.

Should’ve, could’ve, would’ve. There have been a handful of centres who have been moved between teams over the years, and the Habs may be in a different position if they managed to get in on some of them.

Just in case you missed the Laval Rocket’s latest game, it wasn’t a good one. The team hasn’t been playing it’s best, but the amount of talent out of the lineup showed that night.
