Scouting

Trevor Timmins should stay. Before making any decisions about his future, we should see a couple of drafts in which he actually gets to control the drafting of all players. Bergevin has overridden him many times, and it simply hasn’t worked. Before passing judgement, there needs to be a look into what he is capable of when able to fully perform those duties.

Having someone like Pierre McGuire in the management group could help in the scouting department as well. Having those two working together could mean great things for the future.

Development will have to improve with the scouting though, as Montreal has had the quite poor player development for a while. This is something that Julien Brisebois could help out with in a major way. The direction that the Syracuse Crunch and Tampa Bay Lightning have been going is proof of his capability.

President

Geoff Molson simply is not working out as the President of Hockey Operations for the Montreal Canadiens. Molson is not a hockey guy, he doesn’t know the game like players, coaches, or even media members do.

He has apparent blind trust in Bergevin who it seems gets to make whatever decision he wants, with Molson only ever stepping in during the Subban negotiations. Having a hockey minded President is essential to any good team. Even with a good General Manager sometimes there is the need to have a sober second thought.

A good person for that in my eyes would be Saku Koivu if he is interested. A former captain, still young enough to have fresh ideas and mindset, and most importantly loved by the fans. Even though he isn’t French, I cannot see anyone complaining about him returning to the club in some form.

Really though any Habs alumni could be a good fit. There are so many great players that were loved by the city, one of them will have the skill and desire for the job. Molson just has to go out and find someone.
