Montreal Canadiens Prospect Tracker: The Howling Wolf
Montreal Canadiens prospect Michael Pezzetta has continued to flourish after being named the captain of his team and is at the top of the tracker this week.
It was an interesting week in the Canadian Hockey League. Most teams didn’t play many games as the league took a bit of break to allow players participating in the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia series to prepare. It isn’t just in the CHL though, Joni Ikonen also missed time from KalPa taking part in the Leijonat Under 20 tournament for Team Finland. Although some Montreal Canadiens didn’t see too much action, the others have still been hitting the ice.
Week of November 3rd – 9th
Will Bitten
It’s starting to get more positive in Hamilton as the Bulldogs won both of their games. Bitten took a more responsible role in the team’s two wins but managed an assist and a 3rd Star against the Windsor Spitfires.
Bitten also had the pleasure of being named to Team OHL for the Canada-Russia series who played their first game on Thursday. Unfortunately, the team lost 5-2 and Bitten was held pointless.
Season Total: 3 goals 11 assists
Micahel Pezzetta
The offence has continued for Pezzetta. After having a hat-trick last week, the Sudbury captain put up another three goals and two assists in two games. Both of those goals scored in the 4-3 Mississauga win were from deflections on the power play.
He’s been a relentless player all season and continues to use his size and strength to win battles all over the ice. This could turn out to be quite the year for the 2016 6th round pick. He can also grow a pretty solid stache.
Season Total: 10 goals 10 assists
Cale Fleury
Fleury’s goal-scoring clinic from the backhand is staying alive. He had the insurance marker for Kootenay in the first of two games against the Brandon Wheat Kings on the power play.
Season Total: 6 goals 3 assists
Scott Walford
The Victoria Royals split the weekend series with the Kelowna Rockets where both games ended in a score of 4-2. Walford was pointless in both but has continued to have his defensive play grow. Considering the number of offensive prospects the Habs have in the system, it’s good to have one who focuses on defence first.
Season Total: 8 assists
Jarret Tyszka
Seattle only played one game this week, and unfortunately, it was a loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers. Tyszka was pointless in the match and a -2.
Season Total: 11 assists
Lukas Vejdemo
It honestly feels like Vejdemo is getting better every game. After tying his season point total from the year before, the 2015 3rd round pick is already working to improve on it. Vejdemo opened the scoring for Djurgårdens IF in their 3-1 win against Farjestad. He played a season-high 20 minutes in that game. Vejdemo also had an assist on the game-winning goal in their next match against the same team.
Season Total: 5 goals 5 assists
Joni Ikonen
It’s been the same story for Ikonen with KalPa. The scoring chances are there, and he was on the ice for one of the goals in the team’s win against JYP, but he hasn’t been able to score himself.
The U-20 tournament got underway for Ikonen on Wednesday who has played both games as Finland’s top line center. Finland has won both of its games and Ikonen is still looking for his first point.
Season Total: 2 assists
Ryan Poehling
St. Cloud State got back to action playing in two games against the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Poehling had a goal and an assist in the Huskies’ 5-3 win but was held pointless in the 5-0 blowout.
Season Total: 3 goals 7 assists
Casey Staum
The dam has finally broken for Staum as he had two assists in Dubuque’s 5-3 win against Omaha. He was also a +3 for the night.
Season Total: 2 assists

Hayden Hawkey
Providence was shutout in their only game this week against Boston University. Hawkey was the starter and gave them a chance to win stopping 31 of 33 shots.
Season Record: .909 save percentage, 2.52 goals against average
Nikolas Koberstein
It was a weekend split for Koberstein and Alaska-Fairbanks. He’s continuing to have a relatively quiet but efficient season going pointless in both games.
Season Total: 2 assists
Jake Evans
The 2014 7th round pick is continuing to have a productive season with the University of Notre Dame. After his game-winning goal and two helpers in the team’s 3-2 win against Ohio State, Evans sits at the top of the NCAA for points. Additionally, that game was his sixth multi-point game of the season.
Evans has continued to grow over his four years of college and is picking the best time to peak. It’s not out of the question that the Montreal Canadiens may have some conversations with him later in the year considering he’s a senior
