Another week of tracking Montreal Canadiens prospects and some including 2017 1st round pick Ryan Poehling are starting to generate more offence.
The future is continuing to look great for the Montreal Canadiens. Prospects from different leagues are truly starting to define themselves on their respective teams. Of course there are going to be some growing pains with developing young players, but it’s looked good so far for many of them.
Let’s see how well these prospects have done this week.
Week of October 13th – 19th
Will Bitten
It was a complete 180 for the Hamilton Bulldogs as they won their three games. Bitten’s point crusade has continues scoring two goals and an assist. His goal in the Kingston Frotenacs game triggered the Bulldogs’ comeback as they were initially down 2-0.
Additionally, the league acknowledged Bitten’s success so far by naming him to Team OHL for the Canada-Russia series for the second year in a row. It’ll be interesting to see how well he does among other top players.

Season Total: 3 goals 7 assists (9 games)
Michael Pezzetta
Pezzetta and the Sudbury Wolves were involved in a number of high scoring games this week. The 2016 6th round pick had two assists over the course of four games.
Season Total: 3 goals, 6 assists (10 games)
Scott Walford
Walford had two helpers for the Victoria Royals in their three games. Unfortunately, his point streak came to an end against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Walford has continuously been a reliable defenceman for the Royals. To be a +4 in a game where your team gave up eight goals shouldn’t be overlooked.
Season Total: 5 assists (11 games)

Jarret Tyszka
The Seattle Thunderbirds didn’t see too much action. Montreal Canadiens prospects were going up against each other, but Walford’s Royals got the win. Tyszka finished the game a -2.
Season Total: 7 assists (8 games)
Cale Fleury
The 2017 3rd round pick got back into the lineup after serving his three-game suspension. Fleury was pointless in the two games Kootenay played but, similar to Walford, was on the ice for a lot of the offence. Specifically in the 5-3 win against the Everett Silvertips where Fleury was a +4.
Season Total: 1 goal 1 assist (7 games)
Lukas Vejdemo
There was nowhere to go but up for Vejdemo as he’s continued to be a threat on the ice for Djurgårdens IF. He had two goals for the team including the tying goal in the final five minutes of the Linkoping game to force overtime. Vejdemo is showing Montreal Canadiens fans that he’s improved. The coaching staff is acknowledging it as well as he was bumped up to the second line for their game on Thursday.
Season Total: 4 goals 3 assists (11 games)
Arvid Henrikson
Points are finding Henrikson as well. The defenceman had three assists in the two Orebro HK games.
Season Total: 5 assists (12 games)
Joni Ikonen
It’s not looking good for the 18-year-old. He’s been relegated to KalPa’s fourth line and unfortunately was a combined -4 over the three games.
Ryan Poehling
For a defensive center, Poehling had a pretty offensive weekend. The 2017 1st round pick scored a goal and two assists in St. Cloud State’s dual wins against University of Alaska-Fairbanks. If that school sticks out to you it’s because Montreal Canadiens 2014 5th round pick Nikolas Koberstein plays there.
Poehling definitely knows when its best to contribute considering one of his helpers was on the game winning goal on Friday while his goal on Saturday forced overtime. Koberstein was fairly quiet, but had an assist on the power play in the second game.
Season Total (Poehling): 1 goal 3 assists (3 games)
Season Total (Koberstein): 1 assist (4 games)
Cayden Primeau
Primeau had a strong performance for Northeastern turning aside 24/27 shots. He gave up a goal short side that he probably would’ve liked back, but the other two were weird circumstances.
Season Total: 1.45 goals against average .933 save percentage (2 games)
Casey Staum
The Fighting Saints haven’t managed to get a win this season. Staum hasn’t done much playing in three of the team’s four games.
Season Total: 0 points (3 games)
Hayden Hawkey
Hawkey played well enough for Providence to get to overtime. Unfortunately, they lost in extra time. The 22-year-old stopped 21/25 shots in the team’s loss.
Season Total: 2.32 goals against average .909 save percentage (3 games)
Jake Evans
You can argue that Evans has been the top prospect for the Montreal Canadiens out of college. He put scored a goal and two assists over Notre Dame’s two games. One of his assists in the loss to the University of Denver was the 100th of his career. There are some adjustments that Evans needs to make to his game, in particular on the defensive side.
Season Total: 3 goals 5 assists (4 games)
