Montreal Canadiens Prospect Updates: It’s Time For the Regular Season

Although the regular season for Montreal Canadiens prospects have started in Europe, it’s about to get started for the ones in the CHL.

After weeks of preseason games in the CHL, the regular season is set to start this Friday. When it comes prospects in the Montreal Canadiens system, eyes from the fans will be on some OHL and WHL teams.

The majority of the Habs prospects have already been returned to their junior teams. Only Victor Mete from the London Knights remains (who has actually been playing very well). The only prospect who hasn’t been playing unfortunately is 2017 2nd round pick Josh Brook.

The defencemen sustained an injury attending the Rookie Tournament in Toronto weeks ago. He played about half of the first game before being pulled out. Development coach let media know that Brook sustained an upper-body injury, but we didn’t know anything else from that.

However, yesterday it was reported that Brook’s injury was to his wrist and he’ll require surgery for it. Because of that, he’ll be out for 8-12 weeks. It’s unfortunate, but we’ll see Brook play again and hopefully well.

For the time being, let’s look at what the Montreal Canadiens have done this past week.

Week of September 15th-21st

William Bitten

The 19-year-old stood out in both of Hamiton’s games against the Barrie Colts. He especially stood out in the second game. Bitten finished with a goal and an assist and was named the first star of the game.

Michael Pezzetta

Pezzetta’s Subdury Wolves were involved in two high scoring games. In total, there were 23 goals scored. Thankfully, Pezzetta was a part of all that offence. Over the two games, he had a goal and three assists to finish the Wolves’ preseason.

Jarret Tyzska

The Seattle Thunderbirds didn’t have as much success. Seattle lost both games in their games against the Everett Silvertips and Tyzska didn’t benefit from them. The defenceman was a -3 and had a single assist.

Cale Fleury

Fleury put up the most numbers among Montreal Canadiens prospects this week. Not only that, he was solid defensively for the Kootenay Ice and put up two goals, three assists, and was a +2.

Arvid Henrikson

Örebro HK J20 has already started their regular season, but the team hasn’t been playing too well. Actually that may be an understatement considering they lost both of their games 6-0 and 10-0 respectively. Henrikson was on the top pairing for Örebro but was a -5 over the two matches.

Lukas Vejdemo

Dijurgårdens IF has split their first two games. Although only having an assist, Vejdemo has been one of the most effective and energizing players for the team. His line has been generating a lot of chances in the offensive zone, but obviously still needs more work defensively.

Joni Ikonen

This is where things get interesting. A lot of Habs fans are really high on Ikonen and are disappointed to see that he’s still gone pointless over his five games for KalPa. That being said, he’s still getting his chances. He’s been a wizard in the offensive zone, but just needs a lucky bounce to get going.
