Ari Shapiro (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Kamal Rehman (Montreal Canadiens) are back at it looking into expectations, Leafs optimism, and Habs trade targets.

Habsfan vs Leafsfan – Season 2 Episode 4 (Montreal Canadiens vs Toronto Maple Leafs).

Training camp is here, and we’re closer to the NHL regular season. For our friendly neighbourhood Habsfan vs Leafsfan Podcast, there is more to talk about surrounding the two teams.

Some Leafs interviews were released today where Mitch Marner told reporters that he put on some weight. Thankfully on this week’s podcast, we know how much he put on from the audio between Marner and a Leafs doctor ahead of training camp (0:00).

More from Editorials

There’s an obvious difference of perception between the Leafs and the Habs for this upcoming season. Analysts have Toronto’s season going very well, whereas Montreal’s at the other end of the spectrum (1:31). Is that warranted? Hopefully you’ve been taking part in the Twitter polls as well, because according to fans, a Canadien will be the scapegoat if things go wrong.

Next, Mr. Shapiro takes a walk, or drive rather, down memory lane to the Muskoka 5 (7:30). Those kinds of contracts kept the Leafs from competing despite the great things they did for the team and fans should be thankful there aren’t any currently on the books.

Over the summer, many have linked the Montreal Canadiens to a couple of centers to fill the top-line whole. Kamal argues that those names should be ignored (9:54). Save the $8.5 million in cap space for a bigger fish in the lake, and that lake may be near an island.

Habsfan vs Leafsfan double dips and has another Editor in Leaf writer in James Tanner (@James_Tanner123) on for an interview (11:35). Is leadership and being good in the room actually a factor?
