5. LW/RW David Perron

2015-16 Team: Pittsburgh Penguins/Anaheim Ducks (73 GP-12 G-24 A-36 Pts)

2015-16 Cap Hit: $3.812 million

David Perron‘s first taste of Eastern Conference hockey did not go well. He totaled 86 games with the Penguins after they traded a 2015 1st round pick for him. He only managed 38 points for the Pens and was ultimately shipped off mid-season to Anaheim for another struggling winger in Carl Hagelin.

Perron picked it up with Anaheim and showed the same type of production and consistency he showed in his first 7 seasons.

Perron just finished up a 4 year contract and is still just 28 years old. However, the Canadiens would be wise to pass on the veteran winger. Though Perron’s stretch run showed promise, a lot of Perron’s production came while playing with Ryan Getzlaf.

As far as potential contract, I’d envision him looking for a 1 or 2 year deal with a base salary of $3+ million. Although, it is certainly possible he could receive a 3 or 4 year deal based on his 20 game stretch in Anaheim.

Perron is an intriguing free agent option. He’s in his prime and has a strong track record of production. His fit with the Canadiens would be as a 2nd line scorer though his run with the Pens should be a warning sign that he may not fit the Eastern Conference.
