Le Demon Blond  was acquited on Tuesday  of giving contradictory testimony at his son’s bail hearing in 2009.

The hockey legend caused a media frenzy back in 2009 when a warrant for his arrest was issued.Lafleur had testified in 2007 at his son Mark’s court appearance that he was ‘making sure that all of his son’s probationary curfews’  were followed. A month later, it was discovered at a following hearing that Lafleur had driven his son to a hotel  on two occasions so that Mark could be intimate with his then 16 year old girlfriend. One of the provisions for Mark’s court appointed release was that Mark would reside at his parents place and a time constricted curfew would be in place.

The three panel judges decided today that the trial lawyer for the elder Lafleur’s case erred when he decided that Lafleur knew that his son was supposed to be at his parents home when he was not residing at the rehabilitation facility.

Mark Lafleur pleaded guilty in February 2009 to several charges including uttering death threats, forcible confinement and assault. He was given a 15-month conditional sentence.

Lafleur had no comment but appeared happy with the decision as he awaits the outcome of a 3.5 million dollar civil suit that he filed against Montreal Police over the arrest warrant used to detain him.

It is not known if the prosecution will appeal the case.
