Vinzenz Rohrer is having another great Men's World Championship for Austria, which is starting to become a trend. He has been lights out in international tournaments, which gives Montreal Canadiens fans a shred of hope. However, he hasn't put it together with the ZSC Lions in the National League. Rohrer will play with the Lions again in 2025-26, but fans have to wonder if he will soon come to North America.
Steven Ellis with DailyFaceoff has been covering the tournament closely. Rohrer was one of the only bright spots in Austria's 5-1 loss against Canada. Florian Vorauer stopped 23 shots in the first period to escape with a 1-0 lead, but Canada ran away with it in the next two periods. Rohrer was the only goalscorer for the Austrians, but as Ellis said in his breakdown, it isn't just the points that makes him special.
"Rohrer’s speed was on full display today, and it resulted in the 1-0 goal. Just seconds after his team won a faceoff, Rohrer poked the puck out of the zone and created a rebound, beating Marc-Andre Fleury to make it 1-0. I’ve liked his tournament – even though he hasn’t been very productive, I like how hard he works."
It's unfortunate that Austria failed to make the 2026 Olympic Tournament. We could've watched Rohrer on the big stage against all the world's best, but instead we only get the Worlds. The Worlds isn't always the greatest judge, as not all the best players attend, but he is still looking valuable against NHL talent.
Rohrer has a goal and an assist in four games in this tournament, which matches his total from last year. The Austrians have three games remaining in the group stage and currently sit in sixth in Group A with one overtime win and three losses. Their next two games are against teams below them in the standings, which could set them up for a couple more victories.
