The Montreal Canadiens are onto the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2021. That is all thanks to "Mr. Game 7" Alex Newhook. On Monday night, Newhook scored a goal in overtime to give the Canadiens the 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres in Game 7. In the opening round, Newhook scored a goal in Game 7 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, helping them advance to the second round.

While the focus is on the Canadiens' current run, Newhook does know what it takes to win a Stanley Cup. Newhook began his NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche and, in 2022, won the Stanley Cup.

While being interviewed by Sportsnet's Kyle Bukauskas, Newhook was asked about what this Canadiens team is capable of, taking into account he is the only player on the roster that has won the Stanley Cup before. Newhook believes that the team is "dangerous" in these playoffs.

"I think we have all the pieces," said Newhook. "We believe in each other. I think we've got the depth, that's huge come playoff time to be able to roll all your lines and get everyone involved. We play with a lot of pace. We're a dangerous team and we're confident, we believe in each other. So we've got to keep it rolling."

Alex Newhook believes Canadiens can be 'dangerous' team as they reach final four of Stanley Cup Playoffs

Canadiens fans have heard this repeatedly, but they are one of the youngest teams to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals in recent memory. Going on a deep run like this will only improve the team further, as they will know what it takes to win playoff games as the team reaches the later rounds. Plus, they will only get more confident, as the lights won't be too bright for them.

It's no secret that the Canadiens do have good depth, especially when it comes to their forward group. The top six features Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, Ivan Demidov, and Newhook. But they have had contributors in their bottom six. Alexandre Texier and Zack Bolduc each have seven points through the first two rounds, while Kirby Dach has four goals. That is the kind of production you want from your bottom six forward group in the playoffs.

The Canadiens' path in these playoffs is far from easy, as they needed seven games in each series to eliminate the Lightning and Sabres. Now, they take on a Carolina Hurricanes team that hasn't even lost a game in these playoffs, and look every bit like a juggernaut. But if there is one team that has shown they are capable of giving them legitimate problems, it's the Canadiens.

Newhook knows what it takes to win a Stanley Cup, and he feels that this Montreal team does have what it takes to be the last team standing in these playoffs.
