Pair Of Montreal Canadiens Prospects Set Impressive Records On Weekend
The Montreal Canadiens are down to the final 12 games of their regular season. It will result in a third straight season without playoff hockey in the city, but there could be some playoff action a short drive down the road.
The Laval Rocket are coming off an impressive weekend where they won all three of their games against division rivals. They won back to back games against the Belleville Senators and then took down the Toronto Marlies on Sunday.
This put the Rocket into a playoff spot as they leapfrogged the Senators thanks to those two victories. It remains a tight race for the final three playoff spots in the division as the Rochester Americans and Utica Comets are also battling the Rocket, Senators and Mariles for those three spots.
While the winning alone was an impressive weekend for the Rocket, a pair of records also fell as some of the team's top prospects continued to add to their great seasons.
Logan Mailloux scored yet again to add to his totals and he now has 14 goals and 42 points in 63 games. His 14 goals set the record for most scored in a single season by a Laval Rocket defenseman. Mailloux is a 20 year old rookie and now has nine more games to add to his totals as the best goal scoring defenseman in Rocket history.
Jakub Dobes, a fifth round pick from the 2020 NHL Draft got off to a slow start to his first AHL season, but has been exceptional for the past four months. He is the biggest reason the team was able to turn around from a brutal start, and has the team in a playoff spot right now.
The 22 year old secured his 21st win of the season on the weekend, and set the Rocket record for the most by a goaltender in a single season. He is not 21-14-6 with a 3.01 GAA and a .903 SV% after winning just three of his first 14 games.
Both of these young players are having great seasons for the Laval Rocket and add to the deep prospect pool on the Canadiens right now.
