Montreal Canadiens announce Training Camp Schedule
The Montreal Canadiens training camp begins today, September 18 with fitness testing for the 59 players in attendance. The physical testings and medicals will be the only event for Wednesday, with the on-ice portion of camp beginning on Thursday. There will be four straight days of on-ice sessions beginning on September 19 at the CN Sports Complex.
There will be plenty of storylines through the first four days of on-ice activities, which will lead into their first preseason game on Monday, September 23. The Bell Centre will host games on two consecutive days, with the Philadelphia Flyers coming to town on Monday and the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
September 25 will be a well-needed day-off before the Canadiens hit the road for their first preseason game away from the Bell Centre. The Canadiens will visit the site of their regular-season opener, as they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena. The Leafs will return the favor two days later when they visit Montreal for the year's first Saturday night game.
Wednesday, October 2 will feature an intriguing wrinkle in the preseason schedule as the players will pack their bags for a team bonding trip after the morning practice. The team will head to Mont-Tremblant for three days, getting away from the media pressure of the first weeks of camp and a chance to build some team chemistry before the season begins.
The training camp schedule ends with one last preseason game against the Ottawa Senators on October 5, before the regular season starts on October 9 in Toronto.
