Lane Hutson looked ready to grab a spot on the NHL roster out of training camp through one Rookie Camp game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's a cliche, but there were times that it looked like a man vs. boys when he had the puck on his stick. It's easy to see how his skills in the game against the Leafs could translate against veteran NHLers. It'll be intriguing to see if he can carry it over to the second game on Sunday, but the one-game sample size has the Canadiens fan base buzzing about his potential.

Hutson is unbelievable with the puck on his stick at the attacking blue line. He made me dizzy on the couch watching him spin past defenders with elite skating and deceptive fakes. I can only imagine how it feels to be a winger trying to keep him under wraps. Hutson will run into trouble against some of the league's better defensive forwards, but he can succeed with this skillset against 90% of the league.

It's only one game against Maple Leafs prospects, so we have to exercise some restraint on the Hutson hype train. The early returns on his performance on Saturday make it seem like he could make life much more difficult for the Canadiens' front office. There isn't a place for Hutson with Mike Matheson in the lineup running the first powerplay. Matheson, Patrik Laine, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Nick Suzuki look like the first powerplay heading into training camp. However, if Hutson does make the team, Martin St. Louis has no choice but to give him a look with the stars.
