Hockey players and offseason golf go hand-in-hand, but Newfoundland and Labrador may not be the first place you think of for a golfing destination. However, Bob Cole had a charity golf tournament every summer, which featured many NHL legends traveling to The Rock to attend. After Bob Cole's unfortunate passing this past year, Alex Newhook decided to continue the tradition and create the Alex Newhook & Friends Golf Classic.

This year's tournament featured past and present NHLers, including current Canadiens Jayden Struble, Josh Anderson, and Justin Barron. Newfoundlander Dawson Mercer from the New Jersey Devils also attended the event. The current Canadiens aren't the only golfers Habs fans would've recognized. Alex Newhook isn't the first Newfoundland and Labradorian to don the bleu, blanc, et rouge, as former Habs Michael Ryder and Darren Langdon joined the tournament.

The tournament took place at Bally Haly Country Club, with all proceeds going to the Cancer Care Foundation, Iris Kirby House, and The REAL Program. The REAL Program is a non-profit organization assisting families facing financial barriers. Newhook raised over $11,000 for the program on his day with the Stanley Cup in 2022, so it's a cause that he tries to support whenever he can.

The Newhook trade was a gamble for Kent Hughes, but as a client of Hughes' former agency, he knew the type of player he was getting. Hughes also knew that Newhook was a player with character and a former Stanley Cup Champion. Newhook's endeavor to raise over $100,000 for charities at his new golf tournament is another example of his character and a player the Canadiens can be proud to have in their organization.
