Canadiens Prospect Owen Beck Leads Saginaw Into Memorial Cup
Owen Beck is the lone Montreal Canadien playing in the 2024 Memorial Cup.
The 2024 Memorial Cup runs from Friday, May 24th to June 2nd. The Saginaw Spirt are the host team and loaded their team at the trade deadline by acquiring Canadiens prospect Owen Beck. It isn't Beck's first foray into the Memorial Cup, as he attended last season with the OHL Champion Peterborough Petes.
Beck's Petes were eliminated in the Memorial Cup semifinal last season. However, Beck will get a second crack at one of the most historic trophies in Canadian hockey history with the host Saginaw squad.
Beck started the season in Peterborough, tallying 30 points in 25 games. Beck changed teams at the deadline for the second straight season, where he settled in nicely. Beck had 51 points in 32 games with Saginaw and then added 14 in 17 playoff games.
“All the guys are so competitive, and we're always demanding more from ourselves, from each other, holding each other to a higher standard and keeping each other accountable. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this group can do down the stretch.”
Saginaw couldn't earn their spot in the Memorial Cup after getting eliminated by the London Knights in the OHL semifinals. The Knights went on to win the championship in four games over Oshawa. However, the Spirit were already the hosts for the 104th Memorial Cup, earning them automatic entry into the prestigious tournament.
