Patrik Laine is fitting in nicely

Patrik Laine scored a beauty against the New York Islanders on the power play on Tuesday night. Then, you guessed it, on Thursday against the Nashville Predators, he scored another wicked wrist shot.

Both the Montreal Canadiens and the Bell Centre faithful impatiently awaited Patrik Laine's regular season debut.

The highly anticipated game came on Tuesday night against the New York Islanders, and while Laine says he felt awful, he didn't look it. Recently selected to his native Team Finland for the upcoming Four Nations Faceoff, to be host in Boston, Massachusetts., and Montreal, Quebec, Laine wasted little time introducing himself in his new home rink. In typical Laine fashion, he received a feed from Lane Hutson, and after dusting it off, he fired a perfect wrist short trapper side past Ilya Sorokin.

Surely he was feeling extra confident about his game, after Finland called his name and after scoring in his debut, so he wanted to keep things rolling. Well, he, Nick Suzuki and Hutson ensured that he kept his goal scoring up. Laine beat Nashville Predators goaltender Justus Annunen blocker side to give the Habs a two-goal lead.

It was another goal that had the Bell Centre electric from excitement, which the fans have shown they are plenty proud to call Laine a Canadien. Cole Caufield scores goals, but Laine has to be one of the league's most lethal shooters, right up there with Alexander Ovechkin. He leans on his stick and gets so much torque out of his release, that it's almost unstoppable.

If you liked the one on Sorokin, you will love the one against Annunen.

It's merely two games, but Laine doesn't look to be very rusty or out of shape, if anything he has shined as one of the brightest Habs. And he has been consistent on the back check and forecheck, not cheating for offence. He also hasn't been bad at five-on-five, for those that see both his tallies coming on the man advantage.

I think we all expected that Laine would make opposing goaltender's lives a nightmare, but to do it so soon, and with such velocity is impressive. Chosen as the first star of the game against the Islanders, Laine felt the reaction was outrageous. But you have to think that the Habs faithful wanted to welcome their newest player the only way they know - loud and proud.

The Habs power play looks legit

There were many scenarios pre-Laine where the power play looked like it was moving in the right direction. Hutson, Suzuki and Caufield were looking great and Mike Matheson, but Alex Newhook and Kirby Dach not so much. But with Laine in the fold, teams have their hands full with Caufield and Laine on either side.

If you cheat, either one of them can beat goalies with viper-like speed. This has proven to be a problem on the penalty kill for the opposition. Laine needs very little time and space to shoot the puck and it comes off quick. He gets so much behind his shot that it explodes and goalies can't react fast enough.

Montreal needed some more goals and Laine has three seasons with 30 or more goals, one of those being 44 goals. He hasn't scored 30 since the 2018-2019 season with the Winnipeg Jets, and the 44 goal season was the season prior to that. But he seems to love Montreal and they professed their love for him after his first game with the team.

Laine is a Montreal Canadien and we finally get to watch him play.
