The captain will be back. The Montreal Canadiens announced that Nick Suzuki will play on Thursday night when they take on the Utah Mammoth at home.

Suzuki had been missing in action since Oct. 20 with an upper-body injury. He was expected at the time of his injury to miss between two and four weeks. It falls on the short end of that estimate.

Montreal Canadiens were winning without Nick Suzuki but will be happy to have him back

He missed six games over those two weeks, but the Canadiens managed to win five in a row while scoring at least four goals in their last three games. That being said, they’re coming off a late a historic loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

They led 4-0 with just under three minutes left in the game and ended up losing 5-4 in overtime. After an overtime loss last month, it was revealed he'd miss time. After another overtime loss, it's revealed he's back in the fray.

Getting the usual engine of the offense back out there to lift the spirits of the team comes at the right time.

Even with the missed time, Suzuki is still tied with defenseman Lane Hutson for the most points on the team with 14. His five goals are tied with Zachary Bolduc for the third-most. Once he’s back out there, he’ll likely start to separate himself again from his teammates.

Knowing where he stands after having missed what accounts for two-fifths of games played so far, placing that high on the stat sheet shows how important he is to this team.

That’s just the offensive side. He’s coming off winning his first Selke Trophy last season. After Tuesday night’s loss, the presence of extra leadership on the ice is just as valuable.

Puck drop on Thursday is set for 7 p.m. EST.
