The NHL Stadium Series occurred 11 times in the NHL's history, with the first one happening on January 25, 2014. The first happened at iconic Dodger Stadium, with the Anaheim Ducks defeating the Los Angeles Kings 3-0. Dodger Stadium wasn't the only historic baseball stadium to host a game that season, as Yankee Stadium also had two games that same week with all the New York-area teams (minus Buffalo) being represented.
This year's game will feature the Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings at Ohio Stadium, home of the Ohio State Buckeyes. From the outset Columbus and Detroit may seem like a strange rivalry for this game, but it'll be something special with the Ohio and Michigan representatives facing off at the stadium after all the matchups between the Buckeyes and Wolverines over the years.

The Stadium Series will have an interesting switch for the 2026 edition, as the outdoor game heads to Florida for the first time. The Tampa Bay Lightning will host the Boston Bruins at Raymond James Stadium.
The Red Wings won the first matchup of this season on January 2, winning a 5-4 thriller. An interesting wrinkle for this year's game is the two teams battle two days prior on Thursday night in Detroit. The teams will then fly to Columbus after the game to take part in the festivities, that will likely include an outdoor practice and family day on Friday.
Some people are starting to sour about the outdoor games, as they feel too much of a good thing isn't always the best idea. However, it's sure to be an exciting time for the players involved, and we can hope that the Montreal Canadiens will soon get another opportunity to take their game outside.
